Traffic seen on a snow-covered road
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an alert level 2 weather warning of disruptive snows for areas in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal.
A number of other alerts are currently active across the province including a level 4 warning for damaging winds and strong waves along the coastal areas.

Spokesperson for the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Senzelwe Mzila says the provincial disaster management centre is on high alert.
“The MEC has engaged a number of municipalities as well as part of the departments management plans to ensure that public facilities are made available should they need arise. We have not had any incidents right now but our teams are monitoring the situation on the ground.
Yes, in terms of snow we have got reports from yesterday of frost buildup on the number of roads. Just this morning the Weather Service issued the weather warning indicating a level two of snow expected within the areas surrounding the Drakensberg is a part of uThukela and parts of the Harry Gwala District and areas in the uMgungundlovu District. We have line functioning departments such as transport and agencies such as Sanral to ensure residents don’t find themselves entrapped.”
