Three South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) officials have been arrested at the Johannesburg offices. They are allegedly linked to the more than R260 million stolen from beneficiaries through ghost Sassa cards.
Sassa spokesperson Andile Tshona says more arrests are expected.
“The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) can confirm that three officials were arrested on Friday, 14 March 2025. Sassa is working with SAPS and more arrests are expected to be made. This is part of the ongoing work of the agency to clamp down fraud and corruption activity.”
