SA’s Netball World Youth Cup dream ends in Gibraltar

South Africa’s dream run at the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar has come to an end.

Four-time champions, Australia, handed the Baby Proteas their first defeat of the tournament, winning their semifinal match 67-36.

Despite the defeat, South Africa achieved their first goal, which was to improve on their previous best performance at the tournament, which was a fifth-place finish.

They now aim to secure a bronze medal in the play-off match for third and fourth place against England on Sunday afternoon.

Australia, meanwhile, will take on New Zealand in the final.

The Baby Ferns, who have also won the event four times, are the defending champions.
