SA’s growing manufacturing job crisis needs attention: Saftu

The South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) has called for a meeting with government ministers saying it wants them to address the unfolding unemployment crisis in the manufacturing sector.

The union has summoned Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau as well as the Minister of Employment and Labour, Nomakhosazana Meth.

The trade union has accused government of not doing enough to come up with a solution to the growing unemployment crisis.

Saftu General-Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi says: “There’s been no real engagement between the key players to try and find real solutions and long-term solutions to the crisis. Nedlac (National Economic Development and Labour Council) has to be transformed to be a structure where a real engagement between the captains of industry, the government at the most senior level and labour community at the most senior level begins to confront the issue.”
