SARS conducts search and seizure at Shauwn Mkhize’s mansion in KZN

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has raided the La Lucia mansion in Durban owned by socialite, businesswoman, philanthropist and television personality Shauwn Mkhize, also known as Mam’Mkhize.

SARS has obtained a preservation order and search and seizure warrant from the Durban High Court in a case against the businesswoman.

SARS says the operation is part of its ongoing efforts to combat tax evasion and criminal activities that undermine the economy.

The focus is on the construction industry, which has come under increased scrutiny for non-compliance with tax laws.

SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter reiterates that no one is above the law and stresses the importance of tax compliance in supporting the nation’s most vulnerable populations.

“SARS will not waiver in executing its mandate without fear, favour, or prejudice, regardless of any persons’ standing in society. No one is above the law; it is therefore critically important that SARS acts emphatically to ensure that all meet their legal obligations. Today’s search-and-seizure operation must communicate an unambiguous message to all that law-enforcement agencies will act to stop lawlessness,” he says.

SARS also raided the Mkhize home in 2019 for allegedly owing the taxman more than R140 million.
