SARS’ 2025 filing season kicks off today

The South African Revenue Service(SARS) has announced that the 2025 filing season for individual taxpayers has opened today until 20 October.

Both provisional, referring to people who earn income other than a salary, and non-provisional tax payers can now file their returns on the agency’s digital platforms.

SARS says the auto assessment period that started last week has been completed, with more than 5,8 million taxpayers auto assessed.

SARS Spokesperson, Siphithi Sibeko, says 99,6% of those that were auto-assessed accepted their assessment without making changes, but that those making changes can do so on the e-filing platforms.

“Today, the 21st of July, we begin with the process of eFiling, what we call filing season.
