The South African Police Service has encouraged men to walk away from a situation if they feel provoked, rather than respond with violence.
This comes after a 26-year-old man allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend, Kgaugelo Marota, to death outside a tavern at Maubane village in Pretoria on Thursday.
After attacking Marota, the suspect allegedly returned to his home, where he stabbed his current girlfriend multiple times.
The man allegedly took to social media following the attack, where he admitted to killing Marota and shared the reasons for his actions.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says, “From what I’ve seen and what the investigators have seen is that he confesses to killing her and then says I killed you because of one, two and three, accusing her of certain things. He then posts another video apologising to the nation and families to say, I killed her because of one, two and three and so on.”
Mathe adds: “But we are saying, as the police, walk away. Learn to walk away. We always encourage young people to say that there’s life after a person. You’ve survived so long without this person in your life, surely you can proceed with your whole life without this particular person.”
