National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola briefs media on 06 February 2026.
Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says they have identified South African Police Service (SAPS) members who have been implicated at the Madlanga Commission and have issued them with notices of investigations into their alleged misconduct.
Masemola earlier announced the establishment of a special task team which will probe members implicated at the commission probing allegations made by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
He also confirmed that one member is already on suspension.
Masemola and newly appointed Director of the National Prosecuting Authority, Advocate Andy Mothibi, briefed the media in Pretoria on actions to be taken against those implicated at the commission.

“Another four members that have already been served with notice of intended suspension, we are still considering their representation. There were five names from the Madlanga Commission that were referred to us, and one is already suspended and the others the investigation is on, but their notices of suspension are under consideration.”

During the briefing, Advocate Mothibi assured South Africans that NPA the authority will ensure that those implicated commission are prosecuted.
Mothibi says the NPA will collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure effective prosecutorial decisions.
“The law enforcement agencies demonstrate their commitment to transparency accountability in helping to build trust in our institution and the entire criminals justice system. National Commissioner, I would like to assure you we will bring in our support to ensure effective investigations that will lead that will lead to prosecutorial decisions.”
