The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) has raised concerns about the deteriorating state of municipal governance, warning that it poses significant risks to investor confidence.
Property owners and investors are facing rising costs for essential services such as electricity and water, further exacerbating the issue.
Real estate expert Professor Douw Boshoff supports SAPOA’s concerns, highlighting the growing financial strain on property owners.
Boshoff said, “The infrastructure within municipalities is a major concern. The bottom line of property owners is increasingly jeopardized. The net income of property owners is reducing, and the long-term income growth for property is a deterrent for investors. They are then starting to look elsewhere for investments.”
The warning underscores the urgent need for improved municipal governance to stabilize the property market and retain investor interest in South Africa.
