SANTACO to address safety concerns in taxi industry

Taxi organisation SANTACO says it is making efforts to address safety challenges in the taxi industry. It says it’s concerned about a spike in crashes involving minibus taxis in KwaZulu-Natal over the festive season.

17 people were killed in a collision between a truck and a minibus taxi on the N3 at Van Reenen’s Pass on Monday night.

In a separate incident on the same day, 8 members of the same family were killed when two minibus taxis collided
in Nkandla.

SANTACO’s Sifiso Shangase says, “We would like to convey our condolences to the families of the deceased. Above all of that, we have been encouraging all our drivers to adhere to the law but unfortunately, in some of these accidents, the majority of them are human being failures to adhere to the laws.”
