The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) in Gauteng has called for stronger law enforcement to curb the escalating violence in the taxi industry.
A memorial service for slain Alexandra Taxi Association Chairperson Vusi Mayaba is being held in Johannesburg.
Mayaba was shot and killed in Woodmead, north of Johannesburg on Thursday last week.
His killing came just two days after the fatal shootings of two other members of the association.
Santaco’s Graham Fritz has called on the public to assist police with information that can lead to the arrest of those behind Mayaba’s assassination.
“Santaco Gauteng remains committed to working with law enforcement, government and community stakeholders to promote peace, safety and accountability across the sector. We encourage anyone with information that may assist ongoing investigations to come forward and support efforts toward justice and lasting stability.”
