SANParks launches investigation into Island Lake fire

The South African National Parks (SANParks) has launched an investigation into a fire at the Island Lake in the Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park.

Spokesperson JP Louw says a privately owned boat belonging to a guest caught fire on the water before launch on Monday.

One person was injured and taken to hospital.

Louw says the jetty leading to the launch site was slightly damaged.

The incident caused fuel spillage, and SANParks has appointed a service provider to carry out an environmental clean-up.

The site has also been closed to the public indefinitely.
