Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia has told the National Assembly that soldiers will also be deployed to parts of the Eastern Cape, along with the Western Cape and Gauteng.
Cachalia says the deployment will happen in the next few days.
He was taking part in the debate on the State of the Nation Address.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced during the SONA that soldiers would be deployed in the Western Cape and Gauteng to assist in fighting gang violence.
Cachalia says the Eastern Cape will be included.
“I confirm that the national commissioner of our police service and the chief of our army met yesterday to finalise the deployment plan, which will begin the next 10 days and by the direction of the president, I can confirm that the deployment will include the Eastern Cape,” he says.
