The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) has given President Cyril Ramaphosa until the 24th of this month, just before Christmas to respond to their memorandum of demands.
The Civic Organisation marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to highlight pressing social issues that are affecting South Africans.
One of them is illegal migrants which they claim are putting immense pressure on the country’s social systems while South Africa is grappling with its own challenges like high crime, unemployment and poverty. They started their action from Burgers Park to the Union Buildings where they echoed their frustrations. The high electricity costs was one of their agenda points.
They came from all parts of the country to stand united against illegal migrants and the many other social challenges in South Africa. The recent food poisoning incidents, some which are linked to spaza shops that are selling expired foods, were some of their main outcry.
“Our kids are under attack and the president must do something. Spaza shops must be returned to South Africans,” a resident said.
Addressing the crowd the, Sanco General Secretary Mike Soko, called on the president to set up a special joined committee to prioritise their demands
“We want feedback before Christmas otherwise we will retaliate with an even bigger march,” says Mike Soko, Sanco Secretary General.
They also demand that other service delivery matters be prioritized and for stronger action against against corruption.
