SAMWU concerned about alleged nepotism in Vhembe Municipality

Municipal workers union, South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in Limpopo, has expressed concerns on the alleged nepotism and corruption on the hiring of workers in the Vhembe district municipality.

According to the union, executive mayor Fridah Nkondo allegedly interfered in the hiring of more than 100 general workers and borehole operators.

Furthermore, a senior members in the executive mayor’s office sat in the panel which hired their relatives.

District municipality spokesperson Matodzi Ralushai wouldn’t be drawn to comment saying, they have not received formal complaints.

Union Secretary Patrick Aphane says they’ve noted the allegations with concerns and call for investigations.

“SAMWU has noted allegations around nepotism in the recruitment of Vhembe District Municipality. We have also raised certain concerns and we have raised these concerns with the authorities, the municipal manager in particular, we are calling for investigations in relation with the allegations.”
