SAFTU slams upcoming National Dialogue as ‘a waste of time’

The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) has slammed the National Dialogue that kicks off this Friday at the Matthews Hall at Unisa in Pretoria.

SAFTU General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi has branded the dialogue as a waste of time.

Last week, several legacy foundations withdrew from the dialogue, claiming it had been compromised. These include, among others, the Steve Biko Foundation, Thabo Mbeki Foundation, Chief Albert Luthuli Foundation, and Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation.

Vavi says the National Dialogue will not meet the demands of the working class.

“The National Dialogue is a diversion. It’s a waste of time talk show that is not going to produce the results, that is not going to meet even the most basic demands of the working class for jobs at a decent wage and all of that. We are now doubtful that we will attend this one on Friday because we have been reluctant players in the beginning.”
