SAFTAs Chair says Awards validate hard work of film and TV creatives

The South African Film and Television Awards chairperson Kethiwe Ngcobo says the SAFTAs are an important moment of recognition for creatives working in the country’s film and television industry.

She was speaking at the 19th annual SAFTAs Awards underway in Midrand, north of Johannesburg.

This Saturday evening, actors, producers and directors have gathered to celebrate excellence in local productions.

Ngcobo says the event recognises the hard work of industry professionals both in front of and behind the camera.

“It’s about recognition. It’s about seeing and acknowledging people who have worked hard in a very difficult environment in the industry at the moment, and who are being recognised for the work they do behind the camera and in front of the camera. Tonight it’s all in front of the camera, but you’ll also see some producers and directors, and we’re really, really excited. It’s an exciting evening for the whole of the industry.”
