The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) is expected to lead a national march to the office of the National Treasury and the Department of Basic Education, as well as that of Higher Education and Training in Pretoria on Wednesday.
The march is in protest against the austerity measures and budget cuts.
Provincial SADTU secretary Walter Hlaise says austerity measure undermines public service delivery, which includes education.
“We see a lot of budget cuts and decreasing of a number of teachers at school, despite the ever-increasing number of learners. We are also concerned about the safety of our schools. Teachers are being robbed at school, where teachers are being robbed of their things like cars, phones others are compelled to transfer money via their apps.”
