SADAG says unrealistic expectations can worsen stress levels and negatively affect pupils’ mental health.
The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) says it has been inundated with calls from matriculants and parents ahead of the release of the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations results next week.
SADAG Project Manager for Education Roshni Parbhoo-Seetha is urging parents to pay attention to their children’s behaviour.
The organisation has also urged parents and guardians to ease pressure on the learners. This as anxiety levels among some pupils are rising.
SADAG says unrealistic expectations can worsen stress levels and negatively affect pupils’ mental health.
“Early warnings we should watch out for are changes in behaviour – (this is one) of the biggest clues. Withdrawing from others, big changes in moods from appetite, feeling hopeless or suddenly seeming fine after being very upset…wanting to disappear or feeling like a burden or self-harm are to always be taken seriously and acted on immediately. Please remember that you have support available through SADAG. We offer free confidential support for learners and their families.”
