The SACP has reiterated its opposition to the inclusion of the DA in the ANC-led GNU pact. The party’s public outbursts against the ANC’s working relations with the DA prompted the two allies to hold a bilateral meeting today.
The party was speaking to the media on the sidelines of their crucial meeting attended by President Cyril Ramaphosa and his deputy, Paul Mashatile, together with the SACP delegation led by its General Secretary Solly Mapaila, and his Chairperson Dr Blade Nzimande.
The party’s Spokesperson Alex Mashilo says they have nothing to do with the DA.
“When we went to campaign for the ANC in the 2024 May election, we were critical of the DA. We went door to door, village by village, we entered townships, interacting with workers in factories, we were critical of the DA. The DA, at that moment, were campaigning to remove the ANC in power, we still stand where we were. We are strategically consistent which is why we raised our discomfort about the DA. I will give a few example, we campaigned for the NHI, the DA opposed it, they still oppose it, we don’t like that,” says Mashilo.
