The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has reacted to a message circulating on social media that people are posing as TV licence inspectors to gain entry to people’s homes and then rob them.
SABC Spokesperson, Mmoni Ngubane, says the broadcaster has not appointed any inspectors or officials to inspect TV sets in homes.
She has urged the public to report anyone claiming to be a SABC representative in order to gain access to a residence, to the police.
Ngubane says the SABC communicates with TV licence holders through official and secure channels and door-to-door inspections are not part of such processes.
