SABC receives unqualified audit for second consecutive year

The Auditor General has issued a second consecutive unqualified audit opinion for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) for the year ended 31^st March 2025.

The positive audit opinion is noted as a demonstration of the public broadcaster’s commitment to transparency, governance and stricter financial management controls.

In its latest financial results for March 2025, the SABC reported a net loss of R253 million, up from R197 million in 2024.

The corporation faced a tough operating environment characterised by low economic growth and a constrained government fiscus among other challenges.

Revenue grew by 1.3% but remains constrained by limited investment.

Acting SABC Chief Financial Officer Tendai Matore says despite touch economic conditions the SABC remains a resilient and capable broadcaster.

“In the 2025 financial year, the SABC managed to contain its loses to R253 million, slightly higher than last year. Expenditure growth of 3% outpaced revenue growth of 1.3% putting pressure on operating margins. However, there are key positives to take note radio revenues increased by 7% TV license collections grew by 10% and the SABC began commercialising its digital platform, SABC Plus. Importantly, the SABC maintained an unqualified audit opinion and strengthened its balance sheet.”
