SA returns to World Indoor Tug-of-War Championships after a decade

South Africa will finally have a representation at the World Indoor Tug-of-War Championships in Taipei, Taiwan, next month after more than ten years without an indoor Tug-War of Team.

Last weekend saw the Capping Ceremony of the President’s Tug-of-War Team in Cape Town.

It will represent the country in the East Asian country.

Team member 24-year-old Yolanda Thele says it’s a privilege to represent her country.

“I’m really excited, it’s a big responsibility to represent the country, to carry the nation, but also we have the support of our country behind us. So I’m excited to not only just see South Africa on the international stage but also bring back tug of war and to bring back all types of sports forms that have perhaps died or disappeared into the background because the focus has been on all these other big global sports. So I am really excited to lift my country and to really see us shining the South African flag.”
