Representatives of governments, civil society and business will gather in Davos, Switzerland, this week for the 2025 World Economic Forum.

South Africa aims to position itself as an attractive investment destination.

The delegation made up mainly of business and government is expected to highlight South Africa’s G20 presidency at the WEF with a focus on innovation and inclusion to help address the country’s economy.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead the South African delegation to the WEF for the first time in many years.

Sanlam Investments’ Thato Mashigo says it’s important for South Africa to send a strong message to global leaders.

“It will be the first time in a few years that the head of state in South Africa will be leading the delegation and this is an important signal to international partners, whether it be other countries or investors or large multinational businesses that South Africa does intend to attract investments. The IMF is forecasting 1.5 percent in the medium term for South Africa whereas we know that government and the business community are looking 3% so that will come with some challenges but we have seen positives.”
