Global reaction to US, Israel attacks on Iran.
A South African father is pleading for urgent government intervention as tensions escalate in the Middle East following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran and the latter’s retaliation.
Syed Abdullah Husseini says he has not been able to contact his daughter, who lives in Iran, for five days.
The conflict, which has intensified over the past week, has led to airspace closures, security fears, internet shutdowns and the shutdown of some diplomatic missions in affected areas.
Husseini has called on government to make alternative arrangements for citizens stuck in affected countries to be able to secure visas and return home safely.
“The minimum thing which the foreign ministry of South Africa can do is to create a facility that VSS which is open in Tehran and receive applications for visas for other countries, they should be allowed to accept the visa applications for people who are supposed to come to South Africa, loved ones which they want to travel to South Africa and they can receive those applications.”
