SA determined to attend G20 Summit in Miami: Mashatile

Deputy President Paul Mashatile says South Africa is determined to attend the G20 Summit in Miami next year despite the US decision against the country.

Mashatile says he is confident that other G20 countries will support South Africa’s continued membership and recognise the binding nature of the 2025 Johannesburg declaration.

Mashatile emphasises that they are part of the G20.

“The declaration has been adopted, so when we go to the US because they have now taken over, it’s their turn, they have to start on the basis of the declaration that is already adopted. We are determined to go and participate, so we’ll continue to engage them, but this declaration adopted in Johannesburg is not the declaration of South Africa, it’s a declaration of the G20, and I’m sure those countries will stand with us going forward,” says Mashatile.
