Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Alvin Botes, says South Africa is confident that a deal will be brokered between Washington and Pretoria regarding tariffs imposed by the US.
South Africa has been slapped with 30% tariffs, which will take effect on Thursday.
The South African government has said that it is still negotiating with the US on the matter.

Speaking to SABC News in Pretoria, Botes says they hope to reach a deal that will be beneficial to both countries.
“We are seized with the task of trying to do a great deal that will be acceptable to our strategic bilateral with the United States of America as well as to the South African people. We are confident that we will be able to broker a deal that will be beneficial to South Africans and obviously, the American people,” adds Botes.
