SA assumes chairpersonship of Anti-Corruption Agencies

1 minute

South Africa has assumed the chairpersonship of the Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies on Commonwealth Africa.

Special Investigating Unit (SIU) head, Advocate Andy Mothibi, has been elected to the position at the end of the 15th Commonwealth Regional Conference for Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa that concluded in Cape Town yesterday.

South Africa’s chairpersonship of the Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies will intertwine with its position as chairperson of the G20 corruption working group.

The two roles will complement each other as the priorities for both bodies are similar.

The conference has made a myriad of resolutions that will be monitored for implementation.

They include tackling financial crimes, ensuring transparency and accountability in the public service.

One of the other key resolutions is ensuring asset freezing and recovery for proceeds of corruption.
