The Rustenburg Local Municipality in the North West is facing renewed political uncertainty, following a shift in coalition arrangements.
The African National Congress (ANC) in the province has abandoned its coalition partners and joined forces with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to co-govern the municipality.
The ANC was in coalition with smaller parties, including the Botho Community Movement (BCM) and the African Independent Congress (AIC).
BCM’s founder Ofentse Kombe says they are not happy with the way the ANC has handled the matter.
Kombe says, ”In our working with the ANC, the ANC approached us formally. So, when we entered into a coalition it was a formal sign agreement, but, when they take decisions or views that we are no longer needed in this arrangement, they do not come back and call us back to the table and make a formal decision.”
