The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has raised concerns about the persistent number of head-on collisions, which have not shown any decline.
The statement follows this morning’s incident on the N4 toll road in Mpumalanga, where seven people lost their lives in a head-on collision, and one person was left seriously injured.
RTMC Spokesperson Simon Zwane says most of these crashes are as a result of reckless driving.
“We are still challenged by reckless driving and speeding because the number of head-on collisions is not going down. At midnight in Mpumalanga on the N4, there was a head-on collision with seven fatalities. So, the problem of speeding, overloading, reckless driving, overtaking when the view ahead is not clear or over barrier lines … those kinds of problems are persisting,” adds Zwane.
