Roads cordoned off as SCA hears submission invalidating the Zulu King

Security is tight at the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein which is hearing President Cyril Ramaphosa’s appeal of a High Court decision invalidating his recognition of Misuzulu kaZwelithini as King of the Zulu Nation.

Roads leading to the SCA have been cordoned off with barbed wire.

Members of the Zulu Royal family have already taken their seats inside the court.

In the December 2023 judgment, the High Court found that the processes the President had followed were flawed.

However, the court declined to set aside the recognition of the new King. Princes Mbonisi Bhekithemba ka Bhekuzulu and Simakade ka Zwelithini Zulu are among those who have challenged Ramaphosa’s move.
