RISE Mzansi seeks clarity on how new SAA CEO was selected

2 minutes

RISE Mzansi says it will today meet with South African Airways (SAA) and its stakeholders, along with the Portfolio Committee on Transport, to discuss allegations of impropriety in the selection of the airline’s new CEO.

A recent news report has revealed that Transport Minister Barbara Creecy is likely to have recommended the least qualified candidate for the position, contradicting the airline’s board preference.

The party’s Chief Organiser Makashule Gana says they hope to get clarity from the Minister regarding the selection process.

“In the first meeting which I hope the Board will also be in attendance, is to try to deal with this particular issue, to understand where the process is, in so far as the appointment of the permanent CEO of SAA is. But it will be very important for the shareholder representative who’s the Minister of Transport to take not only the portfolio committee into confidence, but South Africans, in so far as the process of appointing the permanent CEO is concerned. Because we can’t go back to the era of significant interference in the appointment process of the permanent CEO of SAA and other entities within the Department of Transport.”
