Richard Shibiri to be cross-examined over alleged syndicate links

Suspended SAPS head of organised crime, General Richard Shibiri, is expected to return to the stand at the Madlanga Commission of inquiry on Friday to face cross-examination.

General Shibiri has testified about his relationship with attempted murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

He told the Commission that he met Matlala in 2016 and connected with him again in 2024.

General Shibiri also testified that Matlala lent him R70 000 to fix his son’s car.

This was after his son was involved in an accident. He says he paid Matlala back in two instalments.

The first was a R20 000 deposit, while the other was a R50 000 payment.

He states the funds were used solely for vehicle repairs and were not connected to his official duties as a police officer.

Shibiri is one of the top police officials who has been accused of being in bed with alleged criminal syndicates.

Proceedings set to begin at 9:30 am.
