Some community members at Ga-Mphahlele outside Lebowakgomo in Limpopo believe the return of the remains of the 14 SANDF soldiers killed on a peace keeping mission in the DRC will bring closure to the families.

The remains will be handed over to the families at the Swartkop Air Force Base in Pretoria on Thursday evening.

Eight of the 14 soldiers killed are from Limpopo. The death of the soldiers has left mixed reactions from community members in Limpopo.

“We are happy that our soldiers are coming back to be buried at their homes. We are not happy about the funeral but as a nation it is an unfortunate tragedy,” says resident Daniel Mamoshite.

“This is very painful where our people are being killed and those children have parents and we are sure their parents are hurt,” says another resident Karabo Ntosane.

“We are not happy that they sent soldiers to fight while here at home we do have wars. I am just happy they are back,” says resident Victor Lekgau.
