Water droplet dripping from tap
Concerned residents in the Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality in Limpopo have marched and submitted a memorandum of grievances to the local authorities.
They’re unhappy about water shortages.
Residents are also calling for transparency in the awarding of tenders.
“We need a clean water and we need service delivery. My demand is clean water, transparency more especially in the issue of tenders. Right now, they are using trucks that are related to the councillors which are fetching water at the river for construction people and they are using the same trucks to deliver water to the people. We are requesting clean water, we need roads, we have got the problem with sewer.”
Modimolle-Mokgophong Mayor Sechele Sebolai says efforts are being made to address the water problems, including drilling boreholes.
“The problem of water is a long-standing challenge that we are busy attending to. We have plans to increase the number of boreholes at Vaalwater because they depend solely on borehole water and also Roedtan. The issue of brownish water sometimes which is not something that happens regularly is when our water levels are low.”
