Residents in Limpopo village call on Eskom to stop blanket load reduction

A community leader at Botlokwa village outside Polokwane, Limpopo, Jeffrey Ntata is calling on Eskom to stop blanket load reduction.

Ntata says Eskom should only punish consumers who buy fraudulent electricity tokens and those who have tampered with the meter boxes instead of implementing blanket load reduction. Several areas which buy electricity directly from Eskom have experienced load reduction.

He says they want load reduction to be ended.

“We are hoping to achieve a community free of load reduction. We do not want load reduction because it has been tormenting our people since December 2021. We held various meetings with all the stakeholders such as traditional counsel, South African Police Services (SAPS), local municipality and Eskom representatives. There were commitments which they made on the 9th of September 2024,” adds Ntata.

Eskom’s customer relations manager in Limpopo‘s Mopani region, Brian Ndubane, says load reduction will be suspended.

“We met the community leadership and we have received the memorundum. We also had our engagement. We had also had other engagements prior to this one, including Eskom management where we took a decision that there is a lot of work to be done around these villages hence we support the suspension of load reduction,” says Ndubane.
