A voter casts their vote in a ballot box
Residents of Ward 28 in KwaDukuza on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast say they want a councillor that will ensure they get basic services such as running water and electricity.
People are complaining about water and electricity outages in this local municipality.
The municipality been struggling with in-fighting and has had a forensic investigation launched into its financial management.
These residents have braved rainy weather to cast their vote.
The ward became vacant when Vishnugopal Govender resigned as ANC ward councillor and is now contesting the by-election as an MK Party candidate.
The IFP and EFF have also put up candidates.
This is what people had to say, “We want proper roads, we want the potholes to be gone, the crime to come down. We want our neighborhood safe.”
“We need safe environments. We need proper lighting in the area and proper control of different types of criminal activities that takes place within the residents of this ward 2. I need water to come to each and every house. Stop stopping electricity. We are paying for the electricity. At the clinic we want medication, they should tell us if they want us to pay for the services.”
