Residents call for more police on R37 after deadly Easter crashes

Residents living along the R37 road between Burgersfort and Polokwane are calling for increased police presence during the Easter season. They are concerned about car crashes involving pedestrians. They say the collisions are caused by speeding motorists.

Nine deaths were recorded on the stretch of road during the Easter holidays last year. The residents were speaking during the launch of the provincial Easter road safety campaign near Riba Cross.

“Motorists that drive along this road drive with speed, and they don’t adhere to the speed limit on this road; they often knock down pedestrians and animals. We want our government to increase police visibility on this road. As you can see today, all cars are moving slowly because of the traffic. It should be like this everyday,” says a resident.
