The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies has requested Parliament not to disclose the other part of the report on the proposed new funding model for the SABC to the public.
The department and the private company, BMIT Knowledge Group Pty Ltd, have requested that progress made on developing the new funding model be discussed behind closed doors.
Communications Minister Solly Malatsi says their request is based on commercial sensitivity.
“The request is solely based on making sure that the integrity of the incomplete process can be protected rather than any other, you know, clandestine attempts. We have always wanted to do this work with the committee and take the committee along through the various stages that we are in and recognise that, of course, in terms of reference today, BMT does the final report. This engagement has an impact on that, but that’s something internal we will resolve. But I wanted to ensure that the committee at the very least interfaces with this.”
