Reiger Park victims to be laid to rest amid heavy police presence

A heavy police presence is expected in Reiger Park in Ekurhuleni this morning during the funeral services of four of the six victims of last weekend’s drive-by shooting.

Six people were killed and three others were wounded in the shooting, which happened last Saturday.

Police say suspects travelling in two vehicles opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.

A joint funeral service will be held for cousins Patricia Nieuwenhuys and Ruth Marais, while Royden Joseph and Danyelle Barlow will be buried separately.

The fifth victim, Nomasonto Nkosi, will be laid to rest on Sunday, while the sixth will be buried in their home country.

A 23-year-old man was arrested by the Anti-Gang Unit but later released due to insufficient evidence.

A heavy police presence is expected in the area as the Reiger Park community continues to grapple with the tragedy.
