Police officials seen visiting Reiger Park on Monday.
Some people in Reiger Park, east of Johannesburg, say they hope that the plans by Acting Police Minister, Firoz Cachalia, to end the ongoing gang violence in the area are not just empty promises.
Cachalia and high-ranking police officials held a ministerial stakeholder engagement with community leaders, promising that a plan has been put in place to deal with the on-going violence.

Earlier this month, six people were killed and three others wounded in a drive-by shooting in Reiger Park.

Concerned resident Licinda Schubert says all they want is for a long-term solution to be implemented that will put an end to the violence.
“Once this is all over and everyone goes back to where they come from then we are back to square one and that is a problem for me. I think there needs to be consistency and they need to communicate a proper plan on how they are going to help us with these problems we have and eradicate all this, and it is basically children that are keeping us hostage.”
