Supporters of the African National Congress (ANC) wave party flags at a rally.
African National Congress (ANC) Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri has denied reports that the reconfiguration embarked on by the party in Gauteng is imposing the newly-appointed Provincial Task Team on some branches in the province.
Bhengu-Motsiri’s comments come as party Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula is set to inaugurate the newly-configured Provincial Task Team, which will replace the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).
Speaking to media in Midrand, Johannesburg today Bhengu-Motsiri says the reconfiguration was not imposed on any party member, but is in line with the ANC constitution.
“Well, let me start off by saying that like any other democratic organisation, the ANC is guided by its constitution. Anything that is done at the level at which it is being done, such as this one, is according to the dictates of the constitution. Rule 12, read with subsection 1, 2 and 3, read with rule 19, totally empowers the National Executive Committee (NEC), which is the highest decision-making body in between conferences, with actions that it has taken,” says Bhengu-Motsiri.
