The City of Johannesburg MMC for transport Kenny Kunene, says Rea Vaya bus services will resume tomorrow morning.
This following the fatal shootings of two bus drivers that led to the suspension of services.
In the first incident, a driver was fatally shot at a traffic light along Wild Chestnut Street in Protea. In the second one, another driver was shot dead in Mapetla.
Kunene says arrests have been made however further investigations are ongoing.
The MMC says the decision to suspend services was to avoid putting traumatised drivers back at work following the attack.
“
Meanwhile, Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero says everything possible will be done to protect Rea Vaya bus commuters and drivers.
“The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Councillor Dada Morero together with his mayoral committee and city manager have expressed their shock and dismay at the senseless killing of two Rea Vaya bus drivers and expressed their deepest condolences to their family and friends. The city has subsequently suspended all bus operations until further notice pending a plan of action to escort and protect drivers and busses from further possible attacks,” says City of Johannesburg spokesperson Virgil James.
