Randburg learner detained after stabbing teacher at school

The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed that a grade eight learner stabbed an educator at Hoërskool Die Burger, in Randburg this morning.

The police and parents were informed and the learner has been apprehended.

Department Spokesperson Steve Mabona says the educator received immediate medical attention and was rushed to the hospital for further treatment.

“Subsequently a police case has been opened by an educator and as such circumstances surrounding this incident will then be investigated by the police while we also focus on the departmental one, as it is known that the SGB has a responsibility of making sure that there is discipline at the school, so they will also conduct their own investigation and take necessary steps accordingly.”
