2 minutes

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will be one of the main speakers at the second G20 Energy Transitions Working Group Meeting in Cape Town over the next three days.

The aim of this meeting is to bring together industry role players from across the world to collaborate on advancing sustainable energy transitions, fostering essential cooperation and knowledge sharing.

Key focus areas of recent G20 presidencies include Just Energy Transitions by Indonesia in 2022, Green Innovation and South-South Cooperation in 2023 by India.

During its presidency, South Africa’s priorities will include energy security and affordable, reliable access and just, affordable and inclusive energy transitions.

Ramokgopa will be the keynote speaker at the events, with the themes Role of Nuclear in Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency and Affordability.

The working group addresses the challenges and opportunities member states experience when shifting to sustainable energy systems.

During another G20 Energy Transitions working group meeting earlier this year, Ramokgopa said South Africa continues its engagements with the United States to iron out differences in efforts to work towards a common purpose on energy security.

He said the country plans to use G20 to position the country as a key knowledge hub in areas of clean energy, just transition and sustainable development in Africa.
