Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has expressed confidence that the country will not experience load shedding for the remainder of the winter season and through the coming warmers months.
The minister gave an update on the state of the national grid in Pretoria today.
Ramokgopa says these positive trends are a direct result of government’s investment in Eskom’s recovery plan.
Among the key achievements cited by the minister are an improved Energy Availability Factor and a reduced reliance on diesel-powered generation.
“You’ve got eight of the 14 power stations that were performing over 70%. One or two of them, even over 90%. This is a significant jump, a spectacular recovery from the last 48% energy availability factor. When we were appointed in 2023, we did say to the country, it’s shot-term pain for long-term gain,” explains the Minister.
“Allow us to reinvest the money that we got from the national fiscus to get the machines going. This rotating machines can be problematic. So we needed time to fix those, and of course, we’ given that space, and now we are we’re able to get the fruits of that investment.”
