Ramaphosa’s Free State trip mustnt’t be reduced to PR: DA

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State says President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to the province must not be reduced to a public relations exercise.

Ramaphosa attended a cabinet’s stakeholder engagement with the provincial government at the Free State University on Friday.

Provincial DA leader Roy Jankielsohn says the province is facing a deepening crisis, with collapsing infrastructure, deteriorating roads, and widespread service delivery failures.

Jankielsohn has called on the President to move beyond symbolic engagements and present a clear, actionable plan to restore governance and fix failing infrastructure.

“Our municipalities are unable to deliver the most basic of services such as water and sanitation and are guilty of human rights abuses. If the president wants to do something useful, he must announce the accountability for those who are responsible for this situation. He must give us budgets. He must give us plans and time frames for their implementation. Otherwise, he’s wasting his time in the free state,” says Jankielsohn.
