President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged women to use the forthcoming National Dialogue to raise issues affecting them.
This is in his weekly letter to the nation. On Friday this week, organisations from across the country will gather for a national convention in Pretoria to kick-start the National Dialogue process.
But President Ramaphosa says women should use this process to bring their challenges to the attention of the authorities.
August is Women’s Month and it also coincides with the first National Convention scheduled for Friday. This convention is the precursor to the National Dialogue aimed at bringing South Africans together to discuss the kind of South Africa they want.
Ramaphosa says, “Like women who protested against the unjust pass laws in the 1956 Women’s March to the Union Buildings, women of today must also take their plight to the authorities at the National Dialogue.”
The president has called on all sectors of society to ensure the full participation of all women in the National Dialogue insisting that this would be the most fitting and powerful tribute to the legacy of the pioneers of 1956 Women’s March.
