Ramaphosa to announce TRC inquiry head

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he will announce the names of the people who will lead the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the delays encountered in investigating and prosecuting Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) cases.

This follows his announcement earlier this week that a Commission of Inquiry will be established.

Ramaphosa says government would like the families of the victims who were affected by apartheid era crimes to find closure.

The President was speaking to the media in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, after the May Day celebrations yesterday.

“People were killed, people were maimed and injured. Their families want to know exactly what happened and they also want to know why. What gave rise to us as a government having slow movement in actually investigating those cases and prosecuting them?”
