Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says President Cyril Ramaphosa will announce the revision of electricity prices in his State of the Nation Address on Thursday night.
The steep electricity price increases approved by energy regulator Nersa threaten to push families further into poverty.
Ramokgopa says his ministry is focusing on how to lower electricity prices which is a key priority for addressing energy poverty.
“Of course, the elephant in the room is the price of electricity. And then the president will say something about it and then I’ll elaborate, end of March, beginning of April. I’m putting in the public domain our electricity pricing policy, the revised version for comment and hopefully by June, July we’ll have closed that and then arrest the situation.”
